Gastronomic Lunch 2017

The Gastronomic Lunch is the brainchild of Neil Slater, founder of Scratchley’s on the Wharf. Since its birth in 2004, The Gastronomic Lunch has raised roughly 1.1 million for the Hunter Medical Research Institution with a further $136,000 raised on 7th May 2017.

Chefs from Newcastle’s most esteemed restaurants worked together on a six-course meal that is unequalled in the region. In 2017, the event’s annual auction included a signed piece from Hollywood actor Robert De Niro, an all-inclusive trip to the Australian Open and numerous holiday packages.

“When creating the event, I wanted The Gastronomic Lunch to have a lot of impact within the organisations it works with. I wanted something that would gain the most traction and maximise fundraising for the HMRI” – Neil Slater, founder.

Our own Scott Walkom in his new role of HMRI Fundraising chairperson was amongst this year’s attendees for his 3rd consecutive year. “For me, The Gastronomic Lunch is a great opportunity to meet and thank the supporters of the HMRI, as well as the event having a fun and relaxing atmosphere, but what’s most important is that the event raises funds for medical research through HMRI for healthy happy kids”

The Gastronomic Lunch was held on May 7th at the Harbourview Function Centre.
